gift wrapper's delight

Okay so tomorrow is my birthday and all I want are things to read. If anyone has any book, article, or story recommendations to give, I’d appreciate them 🥺 as long as it’s written in English, I’ll read it.

I enjoy both fiction and nonfiction, and will take a chance with just about any fandom’s fanfic.

My inbox is wide open and I’ll turn anon on if you wanna send me your recs on the low low 😙

Can you explain this gap in your blog history

I was employed.

no-sorry:

“Astarion bad because he doesn’t wanna help the tieflings / grove” imagine you’ve just escaped a crashing alien ship and the first level 1 adventurer you meet tells you “we gonna go save some people you don’t know, 4 of us vs like 50 goblins, you in?” girl I would quit the party right there

Super super sad that the original costumes for Goncharov were lost in that tragic studio fire 😔I would have loved to see Katya’s fur coat and Goncharov’s pinstripe suit on display at the Met.

not to be That Person but y’all have got to learn to be more normal about bisexual characters. this isn’t 2012. women romancing astarion is not the problem, nor is karlach “lesbian coded”. the real problem is y’all’s biphobia stemming largely from homophobic stereotypes

For a pokemon game, it was unique for having an elaborate story; it took the narrative seriously, challenged various ethical questions and introduced a handful of memorable and well-written characters, such as N. The game challenged the player’s opinions on the ethics of pokemon and always hammered on the ideas of parallalism; black and white, future and past, people and pokĆ©mon, truth and ideals and etc. The games were so good, they received their own follow-up sequels in the form of BW2, which took the story to another level. Generations later, we haven’t seen a pokemon game that took its narrative that seriously.

It was also a soft reset, in that it was the first region not based on Japan, had no returning pokemon (till post game), and the regional Pokedex was built from the ground up adding 150+ new Pokemon. It was a HUGE game both in itself and what it added to the franchise.

For many players, new or old, it felt like playing Red & Green for the first time. You had a whole new region and Pokedex to learn about. Because it was built from the ground up the devs were able to take everything they’d learned from previous generations and deliver something bigger than ever before.

It was also the first ā€œonlineā€ game. While the Dreamworld was hit or miss, the event distribution became truly open for the first time. You got a Victini event right off the bat and there were dozens of legendary events throughout the game.

Black & White absolutely deserves the hype.

also, the games were absolutely beautiful. they really took the 2D pixel artstyle and pushed it as far as the DS could take it. Like just look at these screenshots:

and, they did fully animated battle sprites for the first time. previous games had given little animations to when the pokemon appear and do their cry, but this game had essentially given them all idle animations. and they all had so much character and personality! just think about that for a second: over 600 individually drawn and animated pokemon sprites

like, idk about you, but i still think that visually these are the best pokemon games (and blow the 3D models out of the water)

and then there’s the music. pokemon games always have amazing recognizable osts but this game took it a step further. in a few towns you could actually add channels by talking to npcs who would then play like a drumset or a violin and you could hear them in the background music. there was even a town theme that had VOCALS.

Black & White ABSOLUTELY deserves the hype.
